This handcut puzzle features a number of elements unique to handmade puzzles. Figurals and color line cutting are shown above. A figural is when a puzzle piece is cut into a recognizable shape, in the case of this puzzle, the women depicted in the painting. Color line cutting is when a piece is cut so that there are no color clues as to where the piece belongs. Here I combined the two techniques so that the doorway can be assembled as its own puzzle. The straight edges of the door don't help when trying to group together all the edge pieces at the start of assembly. Check out the Process page to learn a little more about how these puzzles are made.
